Thoroughly clean the surface, remove all loose material and debris
If waterproofing has been done previously, check for integrity of old waterproofing layer. Removal of previous waterproofing is recommended if leakages are not confined to specific areas
Check for the slope of the terrace. The slope should be such that there is no ponding on the surface. Correct the slope using polymer modified mortar after applying a bond coat
The joint between the parapet walls and terrace should be free from any crack. Creating a slope is recommended over this joint. The waterproofing system should cover the parapet walls for better results.
Check for the drain outlets. The drain pipes must be sound and clean, and the terrace slope shall allow water flow to the drain pipe easily. Seal the area thoroughly around all the drain outlets
Check the ledges (chhajja) for any cracks, and repair them. Coating of ledges with waterproofing system is recommended
Inspect if there is any cavity/gap between the building and any neighboring construction, if the buildings are adjacent. Such gaps shall be sealed with non-shrink grouts and sealants
The sides of the building must be coated with waterproof and weather durable paint
Do not expose the cementitious waterproofing system. It must be covered with screed or liquid applied membranes or any other UV resistant system
Waterproofing is a specialist job, manufacturer's specifications & standard operating procedure must be followed. A record of waterproofing system followed must be maintained for future reference
